We'd love you to get involved!
Koala Advocacy is a new initiative with the aim of supporting & defending koalas and their habitat throughout Australia against all threats, both natural & those caused by human society.
We have very low overheads, but we do want to travel to various parts of Australia to interview koala groups, and shine a light on what they're doing for koalas.
We will be providing information & videos on various koala groups, and whilst we can do this at fairly low cost, we may need some help with travel costs.
There are many individual koala groups for local areas (eg Sydney or Port Stephens, or Brisbane, or Portland in Victoria, or Kangaroo Island in South Australia), and many wonderful koala rescue, care & support groups dotted around the country, who are doing fantastic work to save koalas.
Koala Advocacy wants to provide more information on these groups to help you find a group in your local area that you could get involved with, and to help these groups when they have a pressing need for support on particular issues.
We're always stronger when we stand together in unity, and Koala Advocacy wants to provide a meeting place for you to connect with the many wonderful koala resuce, care & support organisations throughout Australia.
Some of these smaller koala groups may need help with funding, because they're often completely volunteer based & run, with no external funding.
Or you may be able to volunteer your time, knowledge & exxperience to help a koala group in your neighbourhood. We'll be looking at ways we can help connect koala lovers with koala groups needing help & support, so you can help out with tasks they might need doing,or maybe just meet with local koala groups to give them some encouragement in the woderful work they're doing.
Citizen Science projects are an important way that you can get involved in helping koalas. Many koala groups need help with citizen science projects, and it's a great way to learn more about koalas from those who are working in the field.
Koala Advocacy wil be looking at ways to help you get involved withsaving & protecting koalas.
From time to time there are koala rallies held in various areas, or petitions to save or protect a particular area of koala habitat.
Koala Advocacy will be a place where you can find out more about what's going on, and how you can get more involved with koala groups, rallies, meetings & other koala activities.
Please join with Koala Advocacy in our efforts to conserve koalas & their homes in our eucalypt forests, throughout Australia.
Remember that you're not powerless, but we all have a vital role to play in saving Australia's koalas.
Please step up with us on this important journey towards saving our much loved koalas into the future.
Often people feel powerless when they see koala habitat destroyed, or koalas harmed in logging & timber harvesting operations. You might want to help, but you don't know what to do.
Something that you can do, and that can be very powerful, is to meet with your local MP, and ask them to represent your views to the Environment Minister, or the Parliament, or in some other way.
Members of Parliament are elected to represent their constituents, and you have a right to meet with your MP, and ask them to represent you and your views on important subjects such as the treatment of koalas. You can ask your MP to meet with the Environment Minister to put forward your views on protecting koalas & their habitat.
Koala Advocacy plans to provide training on how to meet face to face with your local MP to speak up & advocate for koalas.
Koala Advocacy aims to empower you to raise your voice to advocate for koala protection & conservation. Remember that we're stronger when we stand together & speak with a unified voice.
